Description
The memories of more than 100 years of living in the district were shared by Pearl Peters and Mary Harris at a recent meeting of Millicent Local History Group at the Millicent Library. Mrs Peters is a life long resident of Tantanoola and spent her early years living at the former Hanging Rocks Hotel which was owned by her family. Mrs Harris came to live in Millicent in 1954, when she was engaged to be married to Dr. David Harris. She described herself as being very much a 'city girl' from Adelaide and much of her talk was devoted to a hilarious description of coping with life 'in the bush' and as a doctors wife. Pictured Pearl Peters (left) and Mary Harris on the right.

Description
Albert Hall is an impressive Victorian mansion of 26 rooms, built in 1878 for William Kyffin Thomas. He arrived in South Australia on November 14th, 1836, on the "Africaine" with his parents, Robert and Mary (nee Harris). Thomas William Pile, a pastoralist, bought Albert Hall and also the adjoining block on the southern side. Pile established a fine garden and two extra rooms, consisting of a ballroom with a musician's alcove and a conservatory. The front is highlighted by the cast iron balustrade previously from "Tremere".
