Information for parents & families

Thanks to SA’s public libraries, school students can access many of the Challenge’s titles as eBooks – for free! 

Our eBooks can be borrowed anytime and are automatically returned with no late fees.

(note our service is NOT compatible with Kindle e-Readers)


To access Premier’s Reading Challenge eBooks on your iPad, iPhone or Android phone/tablet:

  1. Your child needs to be a library member with an “X0” or “D0” barcode number and PIN. If they aren’t already a member, they can create a digital library membership account at: libraries.sa.gov.au/join Please ensure you read the Acceptable Use Policy for Library Customers before your child creates an account, as our eBook collection also contains adult content
  2. After the account is created, install the OverDrive “Libby” app on the device, open it & then log in with “X0” or “D0” barcode number & PIN (created during the account signup). The Libby app can be accessed from the  App Store or GooglePlay
  3. When in the Libby app, select ‘Library’ then select ‘Explore’

Then select Guide: Kids to access:

  • Reception to Year 2 titles
  • Year 3 to Year 5 titles

…or select Guide: Teens to access:

  • Year 6 to Year 9 titles
  • Year 10 to Year 12 titles

Rather borrow hard copy Premier’s Reading Challenge books from our libraries?

To borrow hard copy books (Challenge books or any other), digital library members need to visit their local public library with identification to have their account upgraded.  Check with your local library as to the identification you will require.  To find your local library, click here.

You can search for hard copy titles using the search fields near the top of this page to see what’s available.  If you place holds on different titles you can be notified when they are available to you.
