Tomorrow's Libraries: Future Directions of the South Australian Public Library Network
The Tomorrow's Libraries: Future directions of the South Australian public library network report is the culmination of broad consultation across the State, an assessment of the state of our local library network and an alignment of our network’s direction to some of the best that is happening in public libraries around the world. It spells out a very clear vision for the State’s Library Network and its component libraries, as well as articulating the community and personal benefits of libraries. Its contextual information and five broad strategies provide a very strong platform for the fifteen goals and thirty-seven recommended actions for the network.
Workforce Planning Strategy Report - February 2017
One Workforce; Transforming the South Australian public library network from the inside out
Public Libraries South Australia and PLS are pleased to announce the release of the workforce planning report: One Workforce: transforming the South Australian public library network from the inside out.
Funded by a LGA Research and Development Scheme grant, PLS and a workforce planning reference group drawn from the SA Public Library Network and Public Libraries South Australia worked collaboratively with Wendy Perry of Workforce BluePrint to deliver a workforce plan. This plan will be useful for libraries to inform their recruitment, professional development and skills training over the next 3 – 5 years.
The project identified a number of emerging workforce issues across the SA Public Library Network such as skill shortages and risks faced through staff exiting the library industry. A broad range of workforce strategies, supported by a realistic and pragmatic action plan have been developed to guide the workforce management over the next 3 – 5 years. The Libraries Board of SA (through Public Library Services) will now work collaboratively with Public Libraries South Australia and Councils to implement the plans actions to ensure future staffing needs are met. The action plan mentioned in the report will released after it has been reviewed and prioritised by the Action Plan working group.
